When you source services, you need to know the context in which a service is needed. Take cleaning as an example: a hospital has different requirements than a factory. Having said that, however, in most cases there are more commonalities than differences (eg, management consultancy or IT), and the industry background is less relevant. During my long career, I supported employers and clients in several industries in reducing their external spend, in optimising their processes, in improving quality, and, last but not least, in giving the procurement team a motivational boost. In this capacity, I worked in the utility industry, in Automotive, and Health Care.
The companies I worked with/for came in all sizes: from start-up to large corporates, from your local one-woman-shop to a global player with buyers in 15 locations. Many of the issues I encountered were similar – irrespective of the company size. Large or small – I served all of them successfully.
